I am a huge fan of podcasts and love to listen to them on my daily commute or while I’m traveling to different locations in between meetings. In general, it’s one of my favorite ways to learn about new topics and hear interesting stories. I find it’s a great way to get insights in an accessible and enjoyable manner. For awhile now, I’ve dreamed of hosting my own podcast.
Many security podcasts focus on technical exploits, hacks, and recent news. I wanted to do a different type of podcast, one that focuses on the human side of security. Throughout my career, my favorite thing about working in this industry has been the people that I’ve had the opportunity to meet. I’m fascinated by people, and I especially love hearing people’s stories about how they got into the industry, and why they choose to do the work they do.
People are, of course, the reason that the world has a security problem, and I also believe that people are the solution. Which is why we’ve created Humans of InfoSec, a show about real people, their work, and its impact on the information security industry.
I am thrilled to be co-hosting the Humans of InfoSec podcast with my colleague Mike Shema. It’s very exciting to be able to shine a light on the amazing individuals that make up this industry and share their vast knowledge.
To kick things off, I interviewed Mike for our first episode. Mike started out as a gamer and hacker in the late 90’s. He was part of the elite Foundstone consulting group, built a web application security scanner at Qualys, and led the Product Security team at Yahoo. Today, Mike is the VP of SecOps and Research at Cobalt.

In our second episode, I interviewed Robert Wood. Robert Wood has a vast portfolio of work ranging from building Cigital’s Red Team Practice to running the trust and security team at Nuna Health.
